Honeymoon Highway....Part 2...(S10-E5)

Picking back up where we left off with this episode, which is now in early February, the newly wedded couple Baz and Eva have headed out on a cross country honeymoon road trip. For a refresher on the previous post to this series click the link below...

Eva sits perched on the hood next to the map that is splayed out over the remaining space of her cherry red PT Cruiser.  She watches Baz patiently, his brow furrowing into a deep disappointment as his finger scans over the road map trying to pin point where exactly he took the wrong turn. Baz insisted they take this trip old school no GPS, no electronics...just a few maps and the open road to take them there.

Of course Eva agreed she very much enjoys her time with Baz, no interruptions, but she also insisted that she bring her cell phone just in case they should ever need it. She is waiting for the right moment to offer it but Baz is determined to figure this out on his own.  "Shit! What was the name of the road we turned off of?"

Eva shrugs, "I dunno! I was asleep when you made the turnoff. You're the one who chose to take the more scenic route"

Baz sighs, "You know it's better if we stay off the main roads."

Eva dismisses his frustrations,  "You're being too paranoid....Lemme just get my phone this will settle it and we can get going again."

"No! Don't turn that damn thing on!...", Baz snaps. "I will figure this out."
He looks back down at the map trying to hone in on exactly where they are. Eva does not like his quick dismissal of the idea. She knows he is trying to keep their trip on the down low, but at the same time he still just prefers things to be old school as well.

"Why not?!...It's not gonna hurt to use the phone for a few minutes.", says Eva.

Baz continues to scan over the map, "I got this handled baby doll...Just sit tight."

Eva sighs, "Baz, we need to know where we are and be nice to know where the nearest fill up station is."

Baz mumbles, "We've got plenty of gas...We'll be fine."

"Not if you keep driving us around in circles!", Eva snaps back.

Baz stops and looks up at her, glaring, those blue eyes burning a hole right through her. She glares right back not backing down. "I got us into this
mess and I will fucking get us out of this mess! Now just sit tight and lemme think Eva!"

Here it comes, their first little tiff as newly weds.... Eva slides off of the hood of the car, then slaps her hand up on her hip. An all too obvious gesture as she kicks the attitude up a notch along with her voice.

"Like hell I will, Sebastian DeRozen! I've done nothing but sit here and watch you stare at that damn road map for the past 20 minutes! I'm tired of waiting! It's extremely hot, and I'd like to find a place to eat before it gets too late. So forget the macho bullshit...I'm getting my phone!.."

But Baz is ready to dish it right back. Still adamant about his position on things and keeping their digital footprint to a minimal. "Over my gawddamn dead body! You are not turning on that phone right now!", Baz shouts at her.

"Just because we're married now does not make you the boss of me!", Eva spits.

Baz doubles down, "When it comes to your safety it sure as hell does!"

Eva scoffs, "Oh please, Baz! If she really wanted me dead she would have done it months ago!"

"That doesn't mean she still doesn't...", his tone more serious. "and now me as well."

"You're her pride and joy she would never hurt a hair on your head...", replies Eva.

Baz shakes his head, "You obviously don't know her as well as I do...."

"Baz, we need to know where we are!...No one is gonna find us out here?!"

Baz looks at her with sincerity in his voice. He really is worried about their safety. "Baby doll, I told you when we left Vegas. If you turn that phone on my mother will have men hot on our trail so fast you won't see it coming!...I know you're worried about getting lost, but have I ever failed you before?"

Eva stutters at the thought, "N..N ...No...but I think we need a
couple more years of wedded bliss under our belts
before you can make that claim, honey..."Her sassy reply makes Baz's scowl disappear for just a split second then he is back to his usual broodingly, serious set facial expression.

"Okay...how 'bout this, lets drive on for a few more miles and see if we find
anything. If we don't then maybe we can try the phone." Baz offers.

"Maybe?...No maybes Baz...."

"Fine...Let's just get back on the road. See what happens." Baz concedes. Eva grabs the map and folds it back up. They simultaneously climb back into the car as they get ready to hit the road again.

Baz looks over at her, "Well that wasn't so bad..."

Evav looks over at him, "What do you mean?"

"Our first fight baby doll...", he remarks.

Eva laughs, "Baz, honey that was not a fight..."
He looks at her with some skepticism. From his point of view it sure felt like one. As he closes the driver side door.
"Trust me baby...You'd know beyond a shadow of a doubt...I'd say that was more of a lover's quarrel."

Baz shrugs,"Well whatever it is, I know for sure I don't want to be without you."

"Baz, it's gonna be fine! Your mother will get over us eloping and getting out of dodge. She'll calm down. Especially if she really wants you to run the family business one day."

"Yeah well coupled with the shit storm my father has stirred up I don't know when she'll calm down, if ever. Sometimes I just don't understand their relationship...And why she is so opposed to ours."

"Well look at it this way, if she is willing to spare your father for the things he has done then I'm sure your mother will get over us being together...", Eva adds. Baz cranks the engine over and starts up the old
PT Cruiser, giving it a moment to come to life before he sets the car into drive.

"I just don't want anyone knowing where we are headed...I'd turn my back on everything just to be with you. You know I don't give a fuck about what she thinks. I love you, Eva...", Baz says as he pulls onto the roadway.

"I love you too baby, but she's still your mother. At least you have one."
Baz doesn't reply. He gets it. Eva spent her whole childhood alone not knowing her real father and mother. Baz on the other hand sometimes wishes he was in her shoes. He loves his parents, but sometimes they push too hard and it's not because they love him.

The two stay quiet for some time as Baz drives down the semi dirt road he has gotten them lost on. Finally something resembling a building can be seen way off in the distance. Eva perks up the second she spots it. "What is that? Do you see that up along the bend, or am I seeing things?"

"No, I see it too...", Baz replies. Finally after a few more miles they approach the bend in the road and begin to get a clearer picture of what they saw off in the distance only moments ago. Both of them are relieved to have found something, especially Baz. He does not want to use Eva's
phone to get them out of this dilemma.

Both of them begin to speculate what it could possibly be. A motel? No. Most definitely not, they are way too far off the main road for it to be a motel. A gas station? Maybe. Even out in the middle of nowhere people might need gas, right? No still too far off the main roads for that. They both begin to speculate that is is probably a house or something of that sort...

"I dunno Baz...this place is not looking too promising....", Eva says with worry. Eva begins to doubt again as they get much much closer to the very worn down structure. Baz flicks his cigarette out of the car and pulls  into the driveway.

"You're carrying, right?...", Eva asks.

Baz looks over at her, "You really think I'd leave home with out it?..."

"No...but just making sure." If someone does live here they might not be too keen on visitors from the looks of it. Baz continues to drive up the long
dirt driveway until they reach the old, dilapidated house.

"Well it's definitely not a motel and it sure as hell looks like it's abandoned." Eva is not liking the prospects of finding any help at this place. She is ready to whip out her cell phone and use it instead. What's the difference in risking their lives with a stranger as opposed to having Baz's mother find them? "I think we should call this a bust. Lemme just get out my cell phone."

"Now hang on a minute I think I see something...", says Baz as he continues to drive.

"Probably someone coming out with a sawed off shotgun!...", Eva panics.
Baz parks the car in front of the house and shuts the engine off. "Baz, I don't like this!"

"It'll be fine baby doll...The gun is in the glovebox just in case. You stay
in the car. I'm gonna see if anyone is home..." Baz says to her as he opens the driver side door.

Eva huffs, "...please be careful..." And with that Baz climbs out of the car. He will not rest till he has investigated thoroughly his options, then hopefully Eva can use her cell phone to get them out of where ever the hell they are.

To be Continued!...

  4. Loving this storyline! These too are an interesting couple. I am so curious to see who Baz's parents are and why they present a "danger" to Eva. That old rundown house is pretty cool too!
